Some time ago Tilehurst Roofing Contractors had a flyer arrive on the doorstep telling us an event was being organised to ‘Turn Tilehurst Red for Remembrance Day, and that they were hoping to rally all businesses, residents, clubs etc in helping with the project, remembering the fallen from World War One on its hundredth anniversary. They wanted everyone to feature this for two weeks between 1st to 14th November.
The Spring Fayre returns to Reading School, Erleigh Road, Reading RG1 5LW on Saturday 12th May 2018 between 12 - 3.30pm. They are featuring the car show again this year but are anticipating it to be bigger and better than last years turn out so should be worth a viewing.
Why jet-washing roofs can cost you ££££!Recently we have been asked to again repair roofs in the Tilehurst area, after they have been jet washed to remove moss.We found gutterings and down-pipes completely full of tile debris and moss, which have subsequently overflowed. This caused water to run down walls and could mean potential damp problems long term. The last roof we were called to needed 15 tiles to be replaced - simply because it was cleaned using a jet-washer. With our experience and knowledge of available replacement products, we try hard but new tiles will generally not match any jet washed roof tiles, as all the coloured fleck will have been blown off.Smart roof repairsTo counter this, and to make the house still look good from the street, we swapped some rear roof tiles to the front, so the repairs were not so obvious.Unbelievably the jet washer had also blown a hole straight through the G.R.P valley troughs. So please be aware of the dangers of jet-washing; they are great for all sorts of applications, but only clean roof tiles using hand tools to prevent unnecessary aggravation and cost!More about cleaning moss off roofs in our blog here

With the summer School break well under way, we as usual are busy trying to complete all our school roofing and repair works. The weathers been on our side, so all our school works are going well so far. There are obvious problems with working on this during term time, so we are limited to a short window when all the kids are off. Urgent Re-Roofing JobJust to add more pressure on us, a large re-roof was thrown into the pot.The Peppard War Memorial Hall is being closed down for a month for various major works, including a complete new roof. The roofing contractor who was originally assigned the re-roofing works, pulled out at the last minute, putting the owners under real pressure. The committee then asked if we could ‘Fit it in’ during the summer. So the Tilehurst Roofing team have helped out and we are now well underway with another large contract.Just hope we have dry weather…………………

Summer is now gone, and we are now looking forward to Christmas, knowing we actually had a good summer for once. With the inevitable heavy rain and winds forecast, its time to inspect and clean out your outlets and guttering systems. With a month's worth of rain in one day earlier this month, it is essential that your guttering's are cleared and maintained.Deepflow Guttering SystemsAs I have suggested many times last year, replacing the original guttering with a new larger capacity deepflow system is a good move. Deepflow systems are new are typically a deep semi-elliptical gutter and are ideal for large roofs and heavy rainfall. The winters are getting wetter with progressively heavy driving rain and these deepflow guttering systems can take the deluge of rainwater more easily than more traditional smaller gauge guttering systems. Please contact us for a free inspection and report on your guttering maintenance before the rains arrive in earnest!Caroline Scheel
With the Abbey School refurbishment project well underway, we turn to our next major project for the summer period. The return to Reading School, where we underwent a guttering and roof maintenance job starting in April this year. Over the remains of the summer period we are to carry out roofing and guttering works to the front of the school. As the building is listed, we are having the guttering made to order, and even spraying the new bespoke aluminium guttering system Buckingham Green to match the existing. The chimneys are all being inspected and and remedial works carried out as required. The roof tiling is being checked and repairs made as required, to the tiles and leadwork.Hopefully we will not encounter too many problems, as time is ticking.
