So halfway through the Roofers Year already - Where does the time go?The company has been very busy looking after hundreds of schools in Hampshire, Bracknell & Wiltshire this year. This is due to us having a large contract maintaining the roofs and exterior maintenance of their buildings. We are now finally underway with a lot of Re-Roofing works, now we have (supposedly) better weather. The T.R.C classic car collection is growing by the month. A Brooklands, A Cosworth, A 3.l s. All classic Ford Capris.
Summer is now gone, and we are now looking forward to Christmas, knowing we actually had a good summer for once. With the inevitable heavy rain and winds forecast, its time to inspect and clean out your outlets and guttering systems. With a month's worth of rain in one day earlier this month, it is essential that your guttering's are cleared and maintained.Deepflow Guttering SystemsAs I have suggested many times last year, replacing the original guttering with a new larger capacity deepflow system is a good move. Deepflow systems are new are typically a deep semi-elliptical gutter and are ideal for large roofs and heavy rainfall. The winters are getting wetter with progressively heavy driving rain and these deepflow guttering systems can take the deluge of rainwater more easily than more traditional smaller gauge guttering systems. Please contact us for a free inspection and report on your guttering maintenance before the rains arrive in earnest!Caroline Scheel
With the Abbey School refurbishment project well underway, we turn to our next major project for the summer period. The return to Reading School, where we underwent a guttering and roof maintenance job starting in April this year. Over the remains of the summer period we are to carry out roofing and guttering works to the front of the school. As the building is listed, we are having the guttering made to order, and even spraying the new bespoke aluminium guttering system Buckingham Green to match the existing. The chimneys are all being inspected and and remedial works carried out as required. The roof tiling is being checked and repairs made as required, to the tiles and leadwork.Hopefully we will not encounter too many problems, as time is ticking.
Its raining cats and dogs! How often do we use that expression? In this country quite a lot!But have you ever wondered where the the saying "its raining cats and dogs" came from?It actually came from the early days of no guttering and gullies - Cats and dogs were literally washed along the street in the deluge of water.
Well we have begun roofing and building works to the local schools, and the first of the large projects is Abbey Junior School in Reading. This is a major re-roofing refurbishment on one of their main buildings and as you can see there is plenty of work to keep our lads going for the summer term.
We are booked to start major refurbishment works to 2 No large local schools.Aswell as looking after 200 plu schools and public buildings in Hampshire, not to mention the every day works.e are erecting 50k worth of scaffolding over the next two weeks, so the works can commence. The works have been ongoing since February 2015 in some cases, with much preparation needed. With only a limited time slot, and very much dependant on the weather... the pressure is on.
Nearly half way through the year, where's it gone?We are already booked up with schools work for the summer holidays, and most of the half terms. So whats happening in the trade?I am finding that we are converting more and more garages into living space these days.Usually re-roof and then insulate, plasterboard and fit out.So why the trend in garage conversions?Apparently cars have got larger, so garages built in the 50's and 60's are too small to fit the car in and open the doors. The more recent introduction of integral garages accessed directly from the house, has turned garages into the ideal places for children's playrooms, gyms, hobby rooms or office spaces. If you do consider a conversion, please bear in mind that it could change the outside appearance of your house, so you may need building and planning regulations.
Just one of the schools we are working on over the Easter break is the Reading School. Reading School is a very large imposing school with a lot of history and beautiful buildings. The guttering to the school has to be kept clear of debris, and that job and general roof maintenance falls to us.Using 2 No large cherry pickers, a mobile access system we undertook the works. Repairs were made and reports written up.Most of the guttering was over 60 feet in height so the work is not for the faint-hearted. We actually removed a pick up full of debris in just one week.Back down to earth we are also installing new underground drainage systems to one of the smaller buildings. On top of this we are carrying out repairs and roof maintenance to a further 18 No schools in this break.... So busy then
Schools Roofing ProjectsIf last week wasn't busy enough with our record number of roofing estimates completed, it feels like the whole of the team here at Tilehurst Roofing have been working on schools last week, ranging from Reading to Basingstoke, including me.This means I spent all Saturday catching up with Health & Safety stuff, and other paperwork.I have just finished pricing 200 houses for roofing and associated works.More schools to do this week.....
A Really Specialist Roofing ProjectA large contract, which is a bit different and calls for quite specialised roofing skills, was the liquid rubber roof to be laid at Leighton Park School, in Reading.Liquid Rubber Roofing is a unique product that has a successful track record in the North American market for over 20 years, where the extremes of temperatures are more challenging than in the U.K. Rapid SettingWith this particular roofing product, we will be spraying on the liquid and, when mixed and applied correctly, it will be set in 1 second, once it hits the surface. Cold applied, it sets as a single fully bonded membrane, with no joints or seams. The Ultimate Flexible Roofing SystemThe system's unique formula provides 1, 100% elasticity and over 95% memory allowing for any excessive roof movement. Just hope the British weather stays on our side!
