As there was no racing this weekend, Team Elliott and Dude headed for the coast.John needing a break to heal after his many injuries, was looking forward to a weekend by the sea.Once on the beach I produced 2 kayaks - "Have a go John" I said.Next thing we are in the very rough and cold sea. After an hour we are heading back to shore, but disaster John was thrown from his Kayak and hanging by the seat of his pants... literally.John was caught on the boat, his shorts hooked, and upside down.Dude came to his aid and rang the R.N.L.I - www.haylinglifeboats.org.uk within minutes the racing legend had been rescued.Battered and bruised John said afterwards - Thank God for little Dude!. Johns off to France this weekend racing in a 3 hour enduro event. Next local race Binstead 20th July Moto Cross, side cars and quads.
After the racing at the weekend, Dude was back to work.Working hard in the hot weather, Dude managed to crack out a large G.R.P fibreglass roof, and re-line a concrete gutter using our Rapid Roof system.Dude has a meeting on Monday with our suppliers as we are starting major works at Leighton Park School. In the meantime Dude relaxes with a 'Bolly'
We recently had the pleasure of working with a gentleman that was an R.A.F veteran, and as our regular customers know we work very closely with the R.A.F.A raising funds for their veterans and causes alike. It proved to be a very interesting meeting with the gentleman concerned, who regaled us all with his experiences while in the R.A.F.We carried out the roof repairs for him but on principle was not going to charge him for the works carried out.Afterwards the gentleman concerned visited us to show his gratitude and he presented us with a book, it revealed that he had actually had a novel published and based loosely on his experiences in the R.A.F as a Wing Commanders driver. We took the book away and began to read it proved to be a very interesting and amusing read and we thoroughly enjoyed the book.I recommend this book to anyone, as it has something for everybody so have a look out for it next time your in the bookshop or shopping on Amazon. The author and book in question is Mr Wallace. S .Beakhouse and the book is the 'The Wing Commanders Wife'
Dude the Tilehurst Roofing duck, made his second race appearance at Wimborne.Hanging on for grim death he and John managed a third place.Dude said afterwards "It was hard out there, but they didnt ruffle my feathers" Dude jumped onto a KTM 450 on Sunday, but unfortunately crashed on a fast corner. He sustained a stretched head and a sore beak.
The Tilehurst Roofing sponsored team Elliott had a busy weekend. Two race meetings in 2 days and a broken nose. The first a warm and sunny Wimborne, hosted by the Wimborne Motor Cycle Club.Saw our own legend John Elliott qualify through the 3 No Moto's to gain entry into the grasstrack speedway final. The six finalists all showed quality pace and racing skills.John managed to hold off a strong field to finish 3rd.After the event, a presentation was held, and with the third place medal, came £10.00 prize money. Not like the old days...John. The Sunday saw Team Elliott roll into Binstead for the South Hants Scramble Club's first round of a mini series sponsored by Tilehurst Roofing. There was a very strong turn out of quads, with very fast action.Mr Elliott again managed 3rd overall, despite head butting his handlebars and braking his nose....Ouch! Next meet - 20th July - Hawbridge Farm, Near Alton.
Dude the duck made his first appearance at the race track on Sunday.Proudly sitting on the front mudguard of Nick and Pau'ls side car outfit, he showed no nerves as he raced around the dusty and rough track. If any children or adults for that matter, would like a free Dude the duck, please call in our showroom in the Tilehurst Village Triangle.
Sunday 22nd June A bright and sunny Sunday saw the Tilehurst Roofing side car teams out on track.Again Nick Gorst and our own Paul Wheaton showed very good riding skills in the very hot and dusty conditions, despite a big oil leak.Shaun Mellows showed his class in coming from the very back of the grid to finish first, with 2 seconds in the 3 Motos.Mechanical gremlins plagued our 'Gilo' Paul Giles, a gear box rebuild will see him right for the next round.Next meeting Sunday 7th September
